Listening to music CORRECTLY does not cause tinnitus. all depends on volume. The closer you are to the speaker, the more energy vibrates your ear. the problem with I Pod is that the speaker is right in the ear very close so if you are listening in a noisy place you tend to jack it up louder than you should.
If your car radio is so loud it can be heard outside it is probably too loud.
A frequent cause of tinnitus is high blood pressure. Check that out. Also many of the aspirin like products can cause tinnitus. worst place is a wedding when you are seated in front of an 8 foot speaker.

There are treatments for tinnitus that can reduce or eliminate the sound. It depends on the level of damage already done and other factors. But if you are fortunate enough to have it go away, do not go back to your old habits – because you have damaged your hearing and you’ll worsen things to the point where you have damage that can’t be repaired or helped.
